The cottage is stylishly furnished to a very high standard, including linen and soft furnishings. All beds are 'zip and link', giving the option of either twin or king sized. South Downs Cottage No 4 is situated in the stunning South Downs National Park, a diverse landscape covering an area of 1,600 km2 encompassing lovely towns, villages and breath-taking scenery. An area of outstanding beauty, the park stretches from Winchester on its western border across to Eastbourne on its eastern edge. Why not explore the South Downs by following the extraordinary South Downs Way, a 160 km National Trail taking you through ancient woodlands and offering you the opportunity to escape the hustle of everyday life.
If walking isn't your preferred choice there are plenty of other activities to enjoy, such as cycling, horse riding, exploring the wetlands or visiting the many heritage sites in the South Downs.
A short drive and you will find the vibrant city of Southampton. Once the home to Titanic, Southampton has a strong maritime history and many of the world's largest cruise ships can be seen at the port. The Seacity museum is well worth a visit, with many exhibitions and artefacts to bring history to life. Why not stop for lunch at one of Southampton's many cafes and restaurants, before heading off to the array of shops that await. From boutique retailers to big high street names, it is easy to see why this city is one of the UK's top 10 retail destinations.
A little further down the coast, and still only a short distance from this Cottage, you will find the great waterfront city of Portsmouth. A fabulous destination with an eclectic mix of history, heritage, shopping, arts, restaurants and bars, Portsmouth is a bustling city and worth a visit when staying at this holiday cottage in Hampshire. There's always something to do in Portsmouth, whether it be visiting the many museums, galleries or visitor attractions, to strolling along the beautiful seafront with an ice cream or visiting the many shops and restaurants. Another city famous for its maritime connections, there is an abundance of maritime sights, including cruise ships, ferries and museums showcasing some of the most famous historic pieces and moments such as the Mary Rose, HMS Warrior and the D-Day museum.
Why not enjoy a day trip to nearby Winchester itself, the ancient capital of England which has a plethora of local historic attractions such as Winchester Cathedral, King Arthur's Round Table, Jane Austen's House and nearby Stonehenge to name but a few. The local area also offers a fantastic choice of shooting grounds and fishing lakes. Families can enjoy the attractions at Paulton's Park - the now famous 'Peppa Pig' world, Marwell Wildlife Park or a ride on the Watercress line steam railway.
