Lots of light creates a lovely comfortable atmosphere and with the French doors open enjoy a feeling of space on those summer evenings. Or after an autumn stroll head back to the barn for hot chocolate and a cosy evening by the wood burner.

Local Information about Maresfield, Sussex

Head out towards Lewes and try 'Bills' Restaurant in Cliffe High Street for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Great food and atmosphere. Opposite is Harveys Brewery and The Brewery Shop for great local beers and ales. There's also loads of flea markets around Lewes for browsers. Continue on to Brighton and check out 'The Lanes'. We're also only 15 minutes from 'The Bluebell Railway' at Sheffield Park, an amazing restored stream railway line with a huge engine shed to walk around admiring the enormous locomotives.

On the southern edge of the Ashdown Forest in the tiny hamlet of Maresfield lies this unique holiday destination from which to explore the endless delights of the surrounding area. Glyndebourne, the world famous Opera House and a variety of National Trust and English Heritage properties and glorious gardens along with an abundance of outdoor pursuits are all within easy reach walking, cycling, horse riding and for a leisurely round of golf, the Championship East Sussex Golf Club is just up the road. Should you fancy a spot of fishing (permit required) you may be lucky enough to catch a trout on the River Ouse, reputed to have the heaviest weight trout on any English river!

Alternatively the nearby County town of Lewes, offers an assortment of speciality shops and a direct train service to London for a night out on the town - when you have had enough country air!

Just a 20 minute drive from Royal Tunbridge Wells, the lovely Georgian spa town is well worth a visit and the shopping is extensive full of boutiques and individual shops! Or why not take a day trip to France, the Euro star Train from Ashford or the Channel Tunnel at Folkestone will transport you to a French location in record time - just don't forget to pack your passport!

Also a 40 minute drive away is Tonbridge,a thriving town with an excellent 42 minute train service to London Charing Cross or to the seaside at Hastings! Tonbridge Castle with its wonderful Gatehouse, takes you back almost 740 years! Set in landscaped gardens with picturesque grounds overlooking the River Medway, Tonbridge Castle is reputedly England's finest example of a Norman motte and bailey castle. Tours are available from the Tourist Information Centre. There is a great bookshop located in this part of Tonbridge, Mr Books, in a beautiful medieval building. Tonbridge even has its own theatre, The Oast Theatre inside the 19th Century Kentish oast house, with 10 productions every year!
